regarding social media
hello~ i ought to post to my blog more often. here’s a quick update about my social media situation, and some thoughts on the matter…
i hate all social media!!!
recently i’ve taken the plunge and i just don’t check twitter/tumblr/instagram anymore. i log on occasionally to post art and updates but then i log off and ignore it.
it’s hard to combat social media addiction, but i think i’ve found the winning strategy for me by now:
literally just log off. delete all apps from your phone, log out of all social media sites on your browser, and should you ever want/need to check anything, log in in an incognito window and close it when you’re done.
you can go hardcore and use browser extensions such as freedom to further discourage you, if you really want, but imo the incognito tab trick works well enough.
anyway… i have really bad adhd (who doesn’t at this point…) and cutting out scrolling always helps my focus a lot. i stuck with twitter for quite a while, ignoring all the people fearmongering and wailing about how it’s gonna “collapse overnight” or whatever since elon took over, but at this point… it’s really that bad. i can’t scroll on that site for more than 5 seconds without getting pissed off or angry, because it’s become totally flooded by hate speech and other right-wing nonsense. kindly, i’ll pass.
except…
okay, i can’t say for sure yet, but bluesky has been pretty good so far. follow me there, if you want.
initially i was reluctant to join it, because the idea of having yet another site to check really pissed me off, and there were just too many different “twitter killers” popping up left and right, so i didn’t want to waste my time posting to a site that would inevitably die within a week or two.
(hilariously, i thought threads was gonna be the one to take off at first… i’m very glad to be wrong)
well… it seems like bluesky is the clear winner, so i’ll be sticking with it for the time being. if you want to join any social platform right now, i would say join bluesky. it won’t “take off” unless we actually stick to it and use it. that being said, most of my friends and favourite artists have already moved there, so i’m happy. real life connections are so much more important anyway, but if i‘m going to use social media, i’d like to focus on the social part…
anyway.
that’s about it from me. i’m hard at work at my webcomic (future link), and i hope to publish the first entries soon. also, this coming saturday, i’ll be performing live visuals with dustBunny in montreal at winterspell—come see that, if you like. i’ll try to remember to post here more too.
